Te Ara Ahunga Ora Retirement Commission's ongoing research gives us a deeper understanding of New Zealanders' financial capability and how it compares globally.

Their latest findings reveal a record number of women feeling financially uncomfortable compared to men. Data from the Commission’s financial sentiment tracker shows that 62% of women reported financial discomfort in the year to 30 June 2025, compared to 51% of men. The proportion of women worried about living pay-to-pay and their debt levels is now the highest since tracking began in July 2021.
