Waatea News - Move-on Orders will push women experiencing homelessness further into the shadows

Yesterday, CEWH’s Vic Crockford spoke to Dale Husband at Waatea News about the potential impact of Move-on Orders on women experiencing homelessness.

Vic raised concerns that Move-on Orders could push women who are already difficult to reach even further from view - away from the places where outreach services can find and support them.

“That's our fear, that women who already do what they can to keep themselves invisible will become even more invisible. Whereas before outreach services may have been able to find them and help them,”  Vic said. 

Vic and Dale’s kōrero also covered the hidden realities of women’s homelessness, the impact of homelessness and Move-on Orders on wāhine Māori, and the growing number of older women experiencing homelessness in Aotearoa. 

Dale described the reality starkly:

“That's just shocking, that we've got old ladies who have to curl up in doorways and alleyways.”

Moving people on will not end homelessness.
