33,000 children living in severe housing deprivation: CEWH research release 8 June

Today, as Budget decisions are being finalised, over 33,000 children and young people in Aotearoa will be wondering if they’ll manage to sleep tonight. For them, sleep doesn't necessarily come easily, because they live in severe housing deprivation.

Each night, these children and young people are without shelter, in temporary accommodation, sharing someone else’s private dwelling, or they’re in housing that is uninhabitable.

On Monday 8 June, the Coalition to End Women’s Homelessness will release our new research, Children and Young People Experiencing Homelessness. It highlights the profound impact that housing instability among women, particularly mothers, is having on children and young people across Aotearoa. Their childhoods are being shaped by homelessness, with deep and lasting harm.

Ngā mihi to the MAS Foundation for their support through a Tūmatakāhuki Community Koha grant; Jo Cribb for her leadership; Taylor Fry for undertaking this research; and the League of Live Illustrators for their generous creative contribution to this kaupapa.Sign up to the CEWH newsletter on our home page to receive our research on June 8th:
